Perfumes and colognes are used by men and women to enhance their beauty and sometimes, even personality. They try to catch the attention of a potential mate through their attractive smell. Sometimes, they wear a particular scent in order to make an impact. In fact, there are people who prefer to wear a powerful scent. That type which attracts powerfully even if the smell is coming from as far as your wooden garage door. This only implies that smell matters seriously for many people.
Given this, it is important that you know how you will be able to choose the best type of scent that fits you.
CHOOSING A SCENT
Each perfume or cologne consists of different “notes.” These notes determine the overall fragrance. These notes consist of three different layers known as the base, top, and middle notes. Some perfumes, for example would be considered floral and contain different scent notes like rose, gardenia, or geranium. Others may be a bit fruitier, with undertones of citrus or apple. Exotic perfumes contain spicy notes like star anise or even cinnamon. Men’s scents have various notes as well. Musk scents have a heavier, more masculine tone, while others may have smells like pine or even leather-based notes. It is always important that you know how to determine which base note you prefer. It would help you make a good decision on which scent you would purchase.
CHOOSING A CONCENTRATION
There are four levels of perfume concentration. The higher the concentration, the longer its scent will last. Of course, this quality might come with a great price tag. This scent of perfume lasts for all day even when a little amount was put on wrist or pulse. Another level of concentration lasts for 6 hours after application. What we usually find in retail stores are considered to be the 3rd level of concentration. To last a day, it has to be applied for multiple times. The fourth level is the lowest. The scent of the perfumes with this level of concentration only lasts for about two hours.
TEST THE FRAGRANCE
Of course, this sounds very basic but this is actually one of the most important steps on choosing your perfumes. You have to do a little sniff of the bottle first to get the idea on how it really smells like. If you already like the smell of the perfume from its bottle, there is a great possibility that you would like its fragrance entirely. When you get to choose the scent you like, try a little amount of it on your skin. Our skin is very sensitive and it has a different set of unique hormones. There are chemicals that are generally safe for others but might seriously irritate you once you get close contact to it. Since perfumes directly contact our skin, it is important that you consider which is safer to you. Try a little amount on your wrist and see how your skin would react. Do not be deceived by the smell. If you love the smell and yet it is not safe for your skin, consider switching to another scent. Always remember to put your safety first.
